Heat advisory issued for several South Florida cities until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the following Florida cities until 8 p.m.:

  • Belle Glade
  • Boca Raton
  • Clewiston
  • Coral Springs
  • Davie
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Hialeah
  • Hollywood
  • Jupiter
  • Miami
  • Moore Haven
  • Pahooke
  • Pembroke Pines
  • Pompano Beach
  • Sunrise
  • South Bay
  • Wellington
  • West Palm Beach

The advisory affects those who spend time outdoors, including those who may work outdoors. NWS recommends moving to a cool or shaded location and to drink plenty of water. It is also important to wear loose-fitting clothing and knowing the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion. You should take periodic breaks indoors with air conditioning.

WHAT IS A HEAT ADVISORY?

A heat advisory is a period of hot temperatures and high humidity that combines to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun if possible and to check on relatives and neighbors.
