FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Crews evacuated a hotel in Fort Lauderdale after, officials said, a fire broke out, Monday night.

The fast-spreading blaze forced guests out of the building, located along the 1800 block of South Federal Highway, just after 9 p.m.

Hotel guests watched and waited as firefighters battled the blaze. “The alarms went off, and we were told to get out, and then all the fire trucks showed up,” said Craig Parrish. “All we heard is that there was smoke on the fifth floor, but nobody was staying on the fifth floor. The fire department showed up and they knocked out a bunch of windows. Now we’re just seeing if we can go back in.”

Officials said the fire sparked in one room. Crews were able to contain it to that unit.

No injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation.
