FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - AutoNation launched its Drive Pink campaign with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue on hand, Tuesday.

The Fort Lauderdale Fire Department was there to show their support and urge people to get a mammogram.

The Drive Pink program hits close to home for one firefighter who is actually a breast cancer survivor. “You never know that you have cancer until it’s too late, if you don’t get a yearly mammogram,” said firefighter Michelle Heiser. “Get it every year, don’t wait six months, don’t be late on it. Here I am. I only had to go through radiation. I didn’t have to have chemotherapy. I was very lucky to have found it early.”

All fire rescue vehicles will have pink license plate frames during the month of October.

The organization is hoping to raise more than $1 million to help two local breast cancer charities. “We’re going to raise a million dollars across the country for the breast cancer research foundation, and right here in our home town, we’re gonna work with the fire department to raise a glob of money to support the local cancer efforts here,” said AutoNation Chief Marketing Officer Marc Cannon.
