JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A woman is in critical condition after authorities say she was stabbed in the neck with a broken broom handle while on the front porch of a Jacksonville home.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s officials say the unidentified victim was stabbed Saturday with a broken metal broom handle about 2 1/2-3 feet long that had a sharp end. A friend said the victim was bleeding profusely and drove her to the hospital. An ambulance met the car and paramedics began treating her on the way to hospital where she underwent surgery.

The Florida Times-Union (http://tinyurl.com/zhnfdkp ) reports authorities are interviewing the woman’s boyfriend who they say is a person of interest in the stabbing. His name was not released but authorities said he rode along in the car with the victim on the way to the hospital.
