ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Police have identified a 38-year-old man who threatened to kill himself before dying in a standoff with sheriff’s deputies.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on its Facebook account that Michael Hartman died after a gunfire exchange Monday night.

It was not clear if Hartman shot himself or was killed by deputies, and the Volusia County Medical Examiner was scheduled to conduct an autopsy Wednesday.

The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that Hartman ran a gun shop out of his home.

The sheriff’s office says Deputies Cody Cochran and Corey Rittenour responded to the home and fired shots during an exchange with Hartman. Both were placed on temporary administrative leave.

Hartman’s wife and three kids, who were home during the standoff, escaped without injury.
