MIAMI (WSVN) - The Palmetto Expressway has finally reopened after a sign fell in the middle of the road causing the highway to be closed for hours.

All lanes near Northwest 17th Avenue were closed, Wednesday, just before 6:30 p.m. Crews were able to clear the road just before 10 p.m.

Florida Highway Patrol said a truck hit the sign. Debris could be seen on the road, and it appeared that one vehicle was hit. “I’ve seen some pretty nasty truck accidents,” said George, the truck driver. “I’m not gonna say this is the worse I’ve seen, but this is definitely weird.”

George said  after he was cut off by another vehicle, a rack from his truck hit the sign, causing it to collapse.

One person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident happened during the height of rush hour, causing massive delays. “It’s pretty backed up,” said one man.

Although the roadway was cleared, crews could be seen working into the night to remove the rest of the sign.
