WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A convicted rapist has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars after fatally stabbing a West Palm Beach man two years ago.

The Palm Beach Post reports that 55-year-old Fred Tims Jr. was given two life sentences plus 30 years Monday for the March 2014 murder and burglary of 57-year-old Frank B. Stevens.

A jury last month convicted Tims of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary with assault and robbery. Stevens was found dead in his apartment of stab wounds. Tims, who was homeless, was arrested a short time later. Police said he confessed to the slaying.

Stevens’ death came less than a year after Tims finished serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping a girl who was less than 14 years old.
