MIAMI (WSVN) - South Floridians will no longer have to travel all the way to Adventure Island or Typhoon Lagoon to get on water slides. West Perrine Park will be unveiling their new Family Aquatic Center this Memorial Day.

According to West Perrine Park officials, the $5.9 million Family Aquatic Center is the first “mini water park” for the Miami-Dade County Parks system. It will include walk-in swimming pools, water-in-motion playgrounds with water slides, a bath house and more. The pools are heated and will feature underwater lights and zero-depth “beach” entries. The site includes approximately 7,000 square feet of pool deck with “funbrellas” and picket fencing.

“The new Family Aquatic Center at West Perrine Park is a refreshing new option for Miami-Dade County residents and visitors who enjoy swimming pools and the many health benefits associated with swimming,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez. “We are grateful to our Parks Department for their great work in revitalizing our public park spaces to improve community livability.”

Guests are invited to wear their swimsuits, so they can enjoy the water amenities.

The park improvement project was funded by the Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond Program (BBC-GOB), the Quality Neighborhood Improvement Program and Impact Fees.

So, get your swimsuits ready for some aquatic fun this Monday, May 30 at West Perrine Park, located at 10301 S.W. 170th Terrace.
