WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) — The City of Weston and a portion of Miami-Dade County will be sprayed for adult mosquitoes this Friday.

According to Weston city officials, they have received many requests from residents asking for their area to be sprayed. The adulticide aerial spraying is targeting nuisance mosquitoes usually associated with heavy rains during the summer months, which do not carry diseases.

The total number of locally transmitted cases of the Zika virus in Miami has climbed to 25.

MIAMI-DADE:

The aerial mosquito control flight will take place over a ten square mile area and will include the Zika-affected area around 6 a.m. (weather-permitting) :

NW 5th Avenue to the west
US 1 to the east NW/NE 38th Street to the north
NW/NE 20th Street to the south

WESTON:

The aerial spraying will take place between the hours of 4 and 6:30 a.m. Residents who have breathing difficulties should stay indoors during this time period at these locations (weather-permitting) :
I-75/I-595 to the north
Griffin Road to the south
SW 160 Ave (Weston Rd) to the east
SW 208 Ave to the west

“Mosquito Control encourages all residents and business owners to survey their property and remove any standing water, and any vessels that can hold standing water, such as flower pots, pet bowls, children’s toys, bottle caps, etc,” a news release said.

Broward County Mosquito Control Section sprays areas of the County by truck and plane, based on requests received from residents. To request service, complete the Mosquito Spray Request Form or call (954) 765-4062.
