OVIEDO, Fla. (WSVN) — A Central Florida mother has been arrested for strangling her 1-year-old child to death.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Kristen De Pasquale, 27, called 911 last Thursday, saying her daughter was unresponsive with a cord of Halloween lights around her neck.

An Oviedo police officer tried to revive the child with CPR, but she was pronounced dead shortly after at the emergency room.

Police said De Pasquale claimed her daughter’s death was an accident, but investigators found inconsistencies in De Pasquale’s story.

The Volusia County Medical Examiner determined later determined that the child had been strangled and was a victim of homicide.

Authorities arrested De Pasquale on Monday, charging her with first-degree murder and child neglect.

A judge ordered De Pasquale to be held without bail.
