NAPLES, Fla. (WSVN) — A driver hoping to swerve and avoid a crash wound up plowing through the side of a dentist’s office in Naples, Wednesday.

Solymar Santiago said a car came plowing through her business, Dental Designs, Wednesday. The man behind the wheel thought he saw a car coming head on and swerved to get out of the way.

“As soon as we walked in, the car was literally halfway into the operatories,” Santiago said.

Workers spent the day clearing the dust, but as bad the damage was, they said it could have been much worse.

“I have no words for what I feel. I think thankful, I would say. I feel thankful that nothing else happened,” Santiago said.

A worker was in the room cleaning up just before the car crashed into the office. Employees said it could have been much worse if the crash had happened earlier.

“We could have had somebody in that room, somebody we care about. It could have been a much worse situation we’re very thankful,” said employee Cathy Begel.

The operating room, one of eight in the office, is always filled during business hours. That part of the building will now be closed for the next few weeks, but Santiago said the damage is the least of her worries.

“This can be repaired, but lives, you know, they can’t. So we’re actually glad that nothing happened,” Santiago said.

The driver was hospitalized but was deemed to be OK. The owner of the building said the crash caused between $40,000 and $80,000 in damage.
