FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Broward County Public Schools are not clowning around this Halloween season.

The district has banned students from wearing clown costumes or masks on campus. The Sun-Sentinel reported on Friday that a robocall from the district alerted parents that the attire was forbidden due to safety concerns.

The announcement comes amid a recent trend of scary clown sightings online and across the nation. Though most of them have proven to be hoaxes, county officials said they’re taking this measure as a precaution.
