HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (WSVN) - A blood drive that was held in Hollywood is one of many events in South Florida to raise awareness about sickle cell anemia.

Wednesday’s blood drive was held to hopefully bring attention for the crucial need for blood donations.

One father was out campaigning for the cause as his 11-year-old daughter battles the deadly disease. “We want the public to come here and support this blood drive because it could give her life or anyone who is suffering from a debilitating disease, and sickle cell is one of them,” said Hans Ottiont.

After donating blood, all participants received a “fight cancer” T-shirt as well as a wellness check-up.
