MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - At least two cars were broken into overnight across the street from Miami Beach’s LIV Nightclub.

Club-goers got a surprise early Friday morning, when they walked and saw their car doors open with police standing outside.

“The cops told me to come out, that there was a situation with the car,” said one of the victims, Jose Lazo. “I came running out and luckily when I got here, they informed me that somebody had broken in.”

Police got a phone call from a security guard, about a man breaking into cars near 46th Street and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.

“I saw a gentleman walking through the parking lot, popping doors open,” said security guard Anthony Lopez. “I figured at first, I thought he was drunk until I see his other companion walking by and doing the same thing, and  I noticed they started banging into people’s car windows.”

The burglars took off but didn’t get far. Officers caught up to the suspects just a few blocks away, near west 41st Street and Sheridan Avenue, after a short chase.

“They got caught by undercover cops, going 100 miles an hour leaving the parking lot,” said Lopez.

Police were able to recover all stolen items. Two of the victims got their suitcases and passports back just in time to make it to the airport for their 6:45 a.m. flight.

“So relieved. This was the last thing I was expecting,” said victim Alexandra Matacchieri, “and I’m so glad the cops were on their stuff tonight. Like, I am so appreciative of their hard work.

Police said they are used to dealing with these types of crimes. In fact, they are still searching for someone who smashed into nearly a dozen parked cars along 11th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Wednesday.
