FLORIDA CITY, Fla. (WSVN) – Police are searching for a gunman, who opened fire on two women while they were sitting in a car in Florida City. One woman was killed in the shooting and another woman was severely injured.

Florida City Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the shooting along the 600 block of Southwest Seventh Terrace, just before 10:30 p.m., Wednesday.

“This is ridiculous,” said Diquan Miller. “Florida City, I just wish we could do better.”

According to investigators, four women were sitting inside the vehicle when an unknown subject discharged a firearm, striking the driver and a passenger.

“This really truly is a nice city, but when we start having stuff like this and people think they can just come down and do what they want to do in our city, no it shouldn’t be,” said Walter Thompson, a friend of one of the victim’s families.

Officials said the driver, 21-year-old Tabitha Jamison, died at the scene.

“They were young. She was young,” said Willie Robinson, a friend of one of the victims. “I know that the one that I believe that’s deceased got a young kid and that’s going to, like, how are you going to break that to her, to her daughter.”

“That’s crazy,” Miller said. “A daughter without their mom, that’s so sad. I hope her mother, her sister just put that baby in a good environment.”

The injured passenger was airlifted to Jackson South Community Hospital in unknown condition.

“The only thing we can do is pray and hope that she pulls through,” said Robinson, “and that she’s all right.”

Miami-Dade Police have taken over the investigation.
