MIAMI (WSVN) - Miami Police are searching for the man who, they said, was captured by surveillance cameras stealing two assault rifles from a parked car in Brickell, Sunday afternoon.

Detectives said a car burglar broke into a 2016 black Mercedes Benz E-400, shortly before 3:30 p.m. The security video captures the subject trying the sedan’s door handle and finding it to be unlocked. Seconds later, he is seen opening the car’s trunk and removing the weapons.

“He grabbed those assault rifles, put them in a bag and just went on his merry way,” said Miami Police Officer Kenia Fallat.

The incident occurred on the seventh floor of a parking garage at a high-rise condominium, located at 1050 Brickell Ave.

Police described the subject as a slim built man, approximately 6 feet tall. In the video, he is seen wearing a red T-shirt, camouflage shorts and a black cap. He was also carrying a blue Adidas book bag.

Residents at the high-rise who spoke with 7News said they did not recognize the man. “Well, he doesn’t look too sophisticated,” said a male resident. “He was just lucky, I guess.”

Investigators described the victim as an avid shooter who owns the guns legally.

Fallat stressed the importance of making sure unoccupied vehicles remain locked at all times, especially if they are used to store items like these weapons. “He has two assault rifles, and we do know that there’s a lot going on right now,” said Fallat. “Having those two assault rifles on the street and falling into the wrong hands is a big mistake.”

If you have any information or recognize the man in the photo, please call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
