NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - The 8-year-old girl who was shot over the weekend in Northwest Miami-Dade has died, her family said Tuesday night.

Police said Jada was standing by the front door of her grandmother’s house when she was struck in the head by a stray bullet, Sunday. Her father, James Page, was also shot. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, Wednesday.

Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the the child was placed on life support, but her family said her heart had stopped beating on Tuesday, at around 5 p.m.

Jada’s mother, Rosalind Brown, was surrounded by family members as she pleaded for justice for her daughter. “She’s only 8 years old,” she said, speaking through tears. “All I’m asking is for justice for my baby, please.”

Miami-Dade Police said the shooter or shooters were targeting Jada’s father, just before 5 p.m., Sunday. The elder Page was shot multiple times in the neck, according to his mother, Vanessa Page.

According to investigators, someone inside a black four-door sedan pulled up in front of the home, near Northwest 25th Avenue and 102nd Street. “A black vehicle, a Ford Focus or Fusion or similar style vehicle, four-door, occupied by at least two males, pulled up next to the 32-year-old male victim, opened the door and proceeded to shoot that victim numerous times,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said Sunday.

“Now I gotta plan a funeral for an 8-year-old child, fourth grader,” said Lisa Hadley, Jada’s grandmother.

Her mother said Jada loved movies, playing with her cousins and friends, and playing with her mother’s iPhone. Relatives described her as the life of the party.

“I could never imagine what it feels like. Her birthday is next week. She’s supposed to be 9 years old, September 6,” Brown said, tearfully. “Stop the killing. I see it on TV all the time, but I never thought it would be mine. I never thought it would be mine.”

Keith Butler, the family’s pastor, spoke about the family’s need for justice. “When you sit by and don’t say anything, and you know what’s going on, you’re just as much a part of it as the criminals and thugs and gangsters that did this.”

Miami-Dade Police are looking for a black four-door Ford.

The reward for information about the shooting has been raised to $25,000, so far.
