MIAMI (WSVN) - Three people were taken to the hospital after, police said, an elderly driver struck two pedestrians, then hit a light pole on a Miami sidewalk, Tuesday night.

City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the accident, near Northwest Second Avenue and 54th Street, just before 7 p.m.

According to investigators, the driver accidentally hit the accelerator when she intended to put her foot on the brakes. As her SUV sped up, it struck two pedestrians, then hit a light pole.

A passenger in the SUV that struck the light pole also sustained injuries. The passenger was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in good condition.

The pedestrians were also taken to JMH, one in good condition and the other in stable condition. They are all expected to be OK.

Another car sustained damages when it was struck by the light pole. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

The accident took place near a supermarket, but surveillance cameras were pointed away from the spot where it happened.

Officials said the elderly driver will probably be issued a traffic citation. It’s unclear whether she will face criminal charges.
