FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Two South Florida teens who are accused of fatally gunning down a man as he sat in his car will be charged as adults for the crime.

Dallas Holston and Sedrick Joseph, both 14, appeared in bond court on Monday. The State Attorney’s Office has charged them with second-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old Gary Martin in Fort Lauderdale. Holston is facing an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a minor.

Police said Holston and Joseph are the two teens captured on surveillance video getting into a car outside of an apartment complex on Northwest 22nd Street, April 19. The recently released video then shows the suspects, both wearing hoodies, running from the victim’s car. Footage from another camera shows them with their hoodies removed as their pace reduces to a walk.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Martin inside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead.

Holston and Joseph, both of whom are in seventh grade, had initially been charged as juveniles.

Holston’s attorney defended his client’s character. “This is a good kid, he comes from a good family, and I’m anxious to get him into court and hopefully get him out of jail as soon as possible,” said Randall Haas.

During Joseph’s bond hearing, his attorney asked for a pre-trial release. “Middle school, he has no prior record, and he was not the person in possession of the gun,” she is heard off camera telling the judge.

The judge denied her request.

Both teens are being held at the Broward County Jail without bond. No information has been released about a possible motive for the shooting.
