MIAMI (WSVN) - Police are searching for one of two people who, they said, were involved in a carjacking in Miami, then led authorities on a chase on Interstate 95 that ended in a crash, Wednesday night. Officers have taken one subject into custody.

According to Miami Police, the armed subjects approached the driver of a black Nissan Murano near Northwest 11th Avenue and 28th Street in Miami’s Allapattah section, just before 7:45 p.m. Investigators said the duo forced the driver out and fled with the vehicle.

Sometime later, police said, officers spotted the SUV near Northwest Sixth Avenue and 62nd Street in Miami. The subjects noticed the officers and sped away. They then entered I-95 and headed northbound with police cruisers not far behind. A police helicopter tracked the stolen vehicle from the air.

Shortly after, the subjects struck three vehicles in the express lanes near Northwest 62nd Street.

A witness who asked not to be identified or show her face on camera told 7News she heard a loud noise. “Like a bunch of cars running into each other, like one after another, one after another, the glass breaking,” she said, “and then you just hear more tire screech, other people trying to stop.”

The witness said she then saw officers responding to the scene. “Then you hear the police, and then all of a sudden, you just see the police running off the expressway, guns drawn, the dogs, everything.”

The duo then took off running. Police set up a perimeter and were able to apprehend one of them, but the other remains on the run.

Authorities shut down the express lanes near Northwest 62nd Street, backing up traffic for miles.

Some commuters sustained minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.

Police cautioned that the subject currently on the run is possibly armed and dangerous.
