MIAMI BEACH (WSVN) — DUI manslaughter charges have been dropped against a former race car driver who killed a pedestrian in Miami Beach.

However, Joao Paulo Escudero Mauro pleaded guilty to reckless driving resulting in death.

The 21-year-old must now complete 100 hours of community service and give up his driver’s license for 10 years.

Mauro struck and killed Russell Knudson along 39th Street and Collins Avenue back in January 2012.

After the original charges were filed, toxicology reports proved he was not drunk. However, he must also give an annual donation to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
