JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WSVN) — Two Jacksonville officers saved the day for a Leatherback sea turtle who was stuck in a crab trap.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Steve Mullen and Officer Brad Smith were off shore two miles out in front of a nearby park when they noticed a 9-foot Leatherback sea turtle who was in distress.

Deputies say a rope was tightened around the turtle’s neck. In a video uploaded to Facebook, you can see Officer Smith cutting the rope while the turtle remains in the water.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office thanked the officers for assisting the turtle while off-duty.
