The family of a Miami Heat Dancer who was killed in a traffic collision said they are frustrated the suspect in the case has not gone to trial, even though the accident took place nearly three years ago.
The parents of Nancy Lopez-Ruiz attended a hearing for Mario Careaga Tuesday morning. He is the motorist accused of causing the accident that killed the 22-year old Plantation resident. “We want justice for our daughter,” said Lopez-Ruiz’ mother. “We want justice, we want to see that they can set the date for the trial ASAP because we’re getting more ill and emotionally affected.”
Lopez-Ruiz was coming home from practice with the Heat Dancers on Sept. 10, 2010. Police said she was riding her motorcycle along Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale when Careaga struck her from behind.
The next hearing in this case is set for Aug. 4.
