FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who hit a bicyclist when he turned around to check on the first victim in one of two collisions that took place in Fort Lauderdale, Friday night.

The first incident happened on West Broward Boulevard between Fifth and Seventh Avenues in Fort Lauderdale. Police said the pedestrian died at the scene, and the bicyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said a second traffic collision occurred after a driver's car broke down. According to authorities, the driver was lighting flares by his disabled vehicle when he was hit by another car. He was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

The drivers in both incidents stayed at the scene and are cooperating with police.
