Chowing down at your favorite barbecue restaurant is a gloriously messy delight. Sometimes, you want to do your finger licking away from the public’s prying eyes. There’s a place in the 954 where you can place your order and drive away with your meal without leaving your car…

Two things make North Lauderdale’s The Burning Oak special. The food’s fabulous. And you don’t have to get out of your car to get it.

Julio Villarreal, co-owner of The Burning Oak: “One of the reasons why we chose this place was because it had a drive-thru and we know it’s hard to get barbecue right and on top of that, to put it through a drive-thru, so it was a challenge.”

You get your order fast, but you won’t be eating fast food…

Julio Villarreal: “When they go through, they expect it to be a slow process but we make a pretty good habit of pumping the food out.”

Variety is another reason to check this joint out.

Julio Villarreal: “The kind of barbecue we serve here is a combination of Texas-style St. Louis all over kind of a nice mesh of barbecue.”

You’re free to order anything you want… but missing the ribs might be a big mistake.

Julio Villarreal: We have a St. Louis-style rib that we do our own special rub that we dry rub it with smoke those for a couple of hours. It’s heaven in your mouth.”

Meat lovers get a double wallop with the brisket burger…

Julio Villarreal: “The brisket burger is a ground sirloin burger that we top with our own slow-smoked brisket.”

The two-pound smoked turkey leg is so big, it could be mistaken for a weapon. If it’s size you’re after, prepared to be humbled by the loaded baked potato…

Julio Villarreal: “The loaded baked potato is a Texas-style potato. We have our own cheese sauce that we put on to it, candied bacon and you can have your choice of chicken beef or pork that we put on top of it.”

Other sides include homemade mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes and braised collard greens. Sending drivers happily on their way is a big deal to the folks at The Burning Oak barbecue

Julio Villarreal: “That makes us proud, but what overwhelms us is seeing all the smiles on peoples’ faces once they have that barbecue.”
