Fashion designer Rebecca Taylor is opening up her first South Florida boutique right here in Miami. 7’s Shireen Sandoval caught up with her at the Aventura Mall for a personal tour and shopping.
“Capturing magic in the everyday” is how Rebecca Taylor describes her chic clothing line. Now, the New Zealand born designer, who lives in New York City, is bringing some of that magic to South Florida.
Rebecca Taylor, fashion designer: “What I really love about the South Florida woman is she enjoys femininity, things that feel beautiful, color, print, things that really show off their body, which I think is amazing.”
Taylor, who opened her first Miami boutique at Aventura Mall just a few weeks ago, can’t believe she waited so long.
Shireen Sandoval: “Why Miami for your first South Florida store?”
Rebecca Taylor: “I love Miami. I only came here for the first time three years ago, and I’ve lived in America almost 25 years, and I was like, ‘I’ve been sleeping on the whole Miami thing.’ It’s vibrant. There’s amazing food, and it’s such an international culture.”
Right now, the boutique features her holiday collection, as well as winter 2016.
Her romantic styles always exude a structured sensibility.
Taylor styled me in three must-have looks from her line: a sparkly black dress, a structured silhouette with lace detailing and comfy jeans, paired with a flouncy blouse.
Rebecca Taylor: “We have amazing high-waisted, straight-legged denim, that work well with the lace pieces or the sparkly going out pieces, which I also think is a nice balance for the SoFlo woman. It’s a catch-all, slightly beachy, but it’s dressy.”
As Taylor grows her online and brick-and-mortar business, she also feels social media plays a big part in fashion, too.
Rebecca Taylor: “I think it’s an important tool. I think it’s really nice for us because it puts the power in our hands of how we want the world to see us.”
And the world is definitely looking because Taylor continues capturing the magic in everyday … and then some.
Taylor hosted the official opening with Ocean Drive Magazine, Tuesday. Part of the proceeds of the shopping event benefits Women of Tomorrow, a mentoring and scholarship program.
