If you see people aimlessly walking around the streets, while staring at their phones, it could only mean one thing — they’re playing Pokemon Go — an app that has quickly become an obsession. It consists of walking around the city and catching wild creatures known as Pokemon. Now, some hot South Florida spots are joining in the fun, and offering special deals to Pokemon players.
Catching Pokemon is exhausting.
Alain Katsman: “We tried to catch all the Pokemon today, and we got a little hungry, and I guess we finally caught them.”
Luckily — at the Beach Bar restaurant — at the Newport Pier in Sunny Isles, they’re rewarding you for your Pikachu-hunting skills. Starting Monday, catch five Pokemon on the premises and get a free themed roll.
Joseph Thomas Zebrowski: “The most famous roll is the Pikachu Roll. It includes shrimp tempura, scallions, cream cheese, topped with Japanese yellowtail snapper and topped eel sauce.”
There’s a Bulbasaur Roll and…
Joseph Thomas Zebrowski: “The third roll is the Charizard Roll. It’s topped with salmon, cilantro and sriracha, to make it a little spicy just like Charizard.”
You got until Sept. 30 to get your free sushi and enjoy the view.
At National Hotel on South Beach, for the entire month of August…
Catarina Suplicy: “The ultimate date night out is to go hunting for Pokemon.”
Here — it’s all about making your hunt a refreshing one. All you gotta do is catch one Pokemon on premises.
Catarina Suplicy: “If you come here with your date or friends or significant other — whatever you want, and you show your phone to the bartender as you catch your pokemon, you get a Pikachu Sunrise for free.”
That’s tequila, OJ and grenadine.
Catarina Suplicy: “This offer is available here at the Blues Bar which is in our main lobby, every day from 4 to 1 a.m.”
Go ahead, take a sip — you deserve it!
Ydaly Cole: “It’s delicious, it’s the perfect way to celebrate catching Pokemon all day.”
If you’re looking for something sweet for your sweetie, here’s a freebie!
James Flanigan: “Free dessert for everyone that shows their server a Pokemon app.”
At Quarterdeck Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, and at other locations in SoFlo…
Saylor Pierce: “I caught five Pokemon and I got a free drink and dessert for it, so it was a really good day for me today.”
The dessert’s free with the purchase of a delicious entree. As for the free drink…
James Flanigan: “We have a drink special where if you catch five Pokemon on premises, we will offer you one of three drinks. We have a Pikachu Punch, we have a Slowpoke Strawberry Lemonade, Oddball Pear Margarita.”
