Driving to work is so 2015. What if you could fly to work with your own personal jetpack? Deco’s aviation and recreation correspondent Chris Van Vliet is here with more.

As you know, “Back to the Future” is my favorite movie of all time, and this might be the closest we can get for now to the flying DeLorean from “Back to the Future Part 2”: your own personal jetpack!

The future is here, and the future looks awesome!

Yeah, that’s a real thing. It’s called the Martin Jetpack, the world’s first practical jetpack.

Mike Read: “Jetpack is driven by 200-horsepower engine, which drives two ducted fans. It’s capable of vertical take-off and landing, and it can fly up to 3,000 feet at just under 50 miles an hour.”

Pro golfer Bubba Watson even tried one as a kind of flying golf cart!

Bubba Watson: “The biggest advantage is the bird’s-eye view. It’s going to give you the perspective you’ve been missing. You’re looking at the course, how to play the course, how to shoot lower scores. It’s almost an unfair advantage. This is a game changer.”

For now you can only fly up to 30 minutes at a time, but hey, that’s 30 minutes longer than you were able to fly before!

And it’s not all fun and games. They’re hoping to use the Martin Jetpack for search and rescue missions and for military applications. It can be flown either with a pilot or by remote control.

Mike Read: “One of the coolest things about the Jetpack is the fact that you can fly over objects. So you can fly over trees, or you can fly over water hazards. Or you can fly over anything you want.”

Now, it ain’t cheap. The personal Martin Jetpack will run you $250,000, and deliveries are expected to start in the U.S. next year.
