Eggnog is the traditional drink of the holiday season. Here’s the thing about traditions: You have to shake ’em up every now and again so they don’t become boring. The nog is getting a facelift, thanks to an eatery in the 954.
At the Quarterdeck Restaurant on the Dania Beach Pier, ’tis the season to offer up specialty drinks. Eggnog was the perfect way to start.
Trenton O’Connor, Quarterdeck Restaurant: “This came up to do five cocktails for the holiday season, and I immediately thought of eggnog and decided, ‘Why not?”
The nog may not be the hippest drink at the bar, but it wouldn’t be Christmas without it.
Trenton O’Connor: “I remember when I was a kid drinking eggnog. I love it to this day. My grandmother made it from scratch. It was always at every holiday party. I haven’t been to a holiday party where they don’t have eggnog.”
Making sure the five seasonal specials are perfect requires expertise — and a lot of self-control.
Trenton O’Connor: “Moderation is key — small sips, just a taste; that’s it. But I can see where you could dive well into it, because the cocktails are so good.”
He’s not kidding. How could the Butterscotch Bourbon Eggnog — with butterscotch schnappes, almond liqueur, a little caramel sauce and Jim Beam bourbon — be anything but fantastic?
Trenton O’Connor: “It all blends pretty well.”
If you’re up for something really different, the Matcha Show-chew Eggnog Martini is calling your name. It’s a mix of vodka and matcha green tea.
Trenton O’Connor: “[We] do a little matcha on top for dusting.”
Pair any of the cocktails with the great desserts at Quarterdeck, and your sweet tooth will never forget you.
It’s a tasty way to celebrate the holidays with the ocean close by.
Derek: “They did an amazing job, all of them being traditional eggnog cocktails with a twist. I would say everyone come here for the holidays and enjoy a nice eggnog drink.”
