The Lady Buggies

From the galleries to the walls, Wynwood is South Florida’s home for the “artsy-fartsy.” Now you can add… their vehicles. Deco’s Chris Van Vliet traded in his ’94 Saturn to test drive one of these sweet rides.

If you’ve never heard the term “art car” before, it’s really as simple as it sounds. These are cars, that are also a work of art. And you don’t just drive them, you experience them. We headed to Wynwood to hitch a ride on a Lady Buggy.

Yarrow Mazzetti: “It’s the first interactive, three-dimensional art car exhibit in the history of the world.”

Meet the Lady Buggies — it’s art on wheels.

Yarrow Mazzetti: “It’s all about the perspective you look at art from. And in this exhibit, we have three perspectives: that of the driver, the passengers and the audience.”

Yarrow Mazzetti: “The people that see the Lady Bugs as they drive by are awestruck.”

They’re golf carts like you’ve never seen before, actually maybe you have… in Nick Jonas’ music video for “Chains.”

If you’ve seen a Lady Buggy driving around in Wynwood, consider yourself one of the lucky few… but by the time Art Basel rolls in December, you’ll actually be able to reserve a ride.

Yarrow Mazzetti: “Soon we’re going to make it more accessible to everyone where you can call and book your Lady Bug experience.”

This isn’t a taxi or a shuttle, the only destination here is a good time.

Yarrow Mazzetti: “What we are trying to do with the Lady Bugs is touch, move and inspire the people through this large scale interactive art.”

If you see a Lady Bug, snap a pic, dance to the music it’s playing or even hop in for a ride!

Yarrow Mazzetti: “People lose themselves when they see these cars. They turn into 10-year-olds. That’s what it’s all about.”

So there’s no schedule to see the Lady Buggies, at least not right now — it’s a special occasion if you see them in Wynwood — like seeing Bigfoot. But like Yarrow said, right around Art Basel, they’re planning to roll it out so you can book your own Lady Bug experience.
