“Angry Birds” is one of the most successful mobile games in history. Now the game has been turned into a movie. Stars Jason Sudeikis and Maya Rudolph sat down to talk about the animated film. Turns out being angry can have some benefits, especially when there are greedy pigs involved.

“The Angry Birds Movie” is landing in theaters. The high-flying adventure pits birds against pigs in an all-new action comedy.

Jason Sudeikis plays Red, a bird whose feathers are easily ruffled.

Jason Sudeikis: “I play Red, who is the angriest bird on Bird Island. He gets the worst sentence you can hand down to him after his anger gets the best of him. That’s to have to go to anger management class.”

There he meets Chuck, a fast-talking feathered friend, played by Josh Gad.

Josh Gad: “He’s a speed demon. He’s the guy who’s sort of like — his mouth goes faster than his thoughts.”

Maya Rudolph plays Matilda. She’s the voice of reason in an angry world.

Maya Rudolph: “I think she’s probably the first New Agey, self-help bird on the island.”

The action takes place on Bird Island — a peaceful place, until the pigs arrive.

Jason Sudeikis: “Then some green pigs show up. All those same birds that find us to be angry are excited, but we’re kind of like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know if these pigs have the best intentions.'”

When the pigs steal the bird’s eggs, that’s when Red and his friends get really, really angry. They launch an all-out attack using — what else? — a slingshot, just like the “Angry Birds” game.

Jason Sudeikis: “It was a little dirty, a little silly. There’s obviously stuff going on there. It messes with all three characters.”

“The Angry Birds Movie” flies into theaters Friday, May 20.
