Training can be boring and sweaty! So we found a way to have fun getting fit. It’s called CrossFit SUP– that’s CrossFit on a standup paddle board and Deco’s Mr. What’s Up? Chris Van Vliet is checking it out!

Well now that the holidays are over, it’s time to work off that holiday weight and since this is what January looks like here in South Florida…  why not make it fun right? Standup paddle boarding is a great way to get in a good workout, but if you want to take it up a notch– check this out.

This is CrossFit on a standup (and squat) paddleboard!

And it’s not as easy as these athletes from Peak 360 CrossFit in South Miami are making it look.

Guido Trinidad: "One of CrossFit’s mottos is to learn and play new sports. Add some movements that we do inside of a gym, take them outside of a gym and instead of doing them on a on a clean, hard surface, you do it on something that’s unstable."

Unstable? Isn’t that another word for insane?

Guido Trinidad: "CrossFit on a paddle board is slightly insane, not one hundred percent but yes basically, what makes it most difficult is the balancing aspect of it."

On top of paddling fast and hard, you do crazy stuff too.

Guido Trinidad: "We do burpees, we do squats, we do pushups, we do planks, we do overhead squats."

Anthony Santoriello: "It’s definitely different, same movements, but it forces you to really pay attention."

Zach Martin: "You’re not used to the water, the current, so it definitely puts your balance to the test a little bit."

Classes are at Matheson Hammock Park.

Joann Fregien: "It’s beautiful out here. How could you not like working out in this beautiful view."

Bring your own board or rent one from Adventure Sports Miami.

Guido Trinidad: "It’s $40 for the hour, that includes the board rental."

And it’s gonna be an intense hour.

Guido Trinidad: "I’m gonna have a clock and at the top of every minute we’re gonna do five pushups, five squats and five burpees. And then you have 30 seconds to paddle as fast as you can. You’re doing that the entire time until you get back."

In other words, get comfortable with being uncomfortable!

Paula Ambrosia: "If you don’t know how to paddle or if you don’t know how to do CrossFit and you combine those two beginner levels, you’re in for a surprise."

Just watching them makes you tired right? I don’t know about you, but I feel a whole lot more comfortable here on dry land, sipping whatever is in here. That’s really good by the way. It’s just water. I’m thirsty OK."
