FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A tale as old as time has arrived at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Wednesday.

The Disney Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast” includes a cast of 30, and one of them is a University of Miami graduate and another is a South Florida native.

“It’s really surreal, I saw my first Broadway quality live musical on this stage, actually,” said Danny Burgos, who grew up in the area.

Ryan Phillips went to UM. “As soon as we stepped off the plane, and I walked into the humidity, I said ‘Oh, my God I’m home,'” said Phillips.

Phillips said those familiar with the Disney movie will be in for a treat. “You’ve seen the movie, but you haven’t seen everything that’s been added for the show.”

Sam Hartley, who plays the Beast, said the show has the perfect message.

“What better story right now than to reinforce to love someone for what’s inside and not what’s on the outside,” said Hartley. “No one does that better than Belle.”

Brooke Quintana said those who enjoy the film will enjoy the play as well.

“It’s a beautiful story,” said Quintana. “If anything, it’s just a more amplified version of the film that we all know and love.”

The show is playing through Sunday in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom at the Broward Center.
