COCONUT CREEK, FLA. (WSVN) - A Florida Department of Corrections officer has died as a result of a collision involving a Corrections Department truck and another vehicle in Coconut Creek, according to the FDC.

Correctional Officer Tawanna Marin was struck by a vehicle while supervising an inmate work squad, just before 2 p.m., Monday.

She was transported to a nearby hospital where doctors later pronounced her dead.

Marin had been with the Department since 2009.

According to the Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Department, Marin’s legs became trapped between the truck and the other car in the crash.

That employee and the driver of the other car were both transported to Broward Health North Medical Center.

The other driver’s condition remains unknown.

Coconut Creek Police closed eastbound Sample Road at Northwest 42nd Avenue, near Lyons Road, during the investigation.
