SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Tragedy struck in the Goulds neighborhood of Southwest Miami-Dade after, officials said, a 2-year-old boy was shot and killed in the courtyard of an apartment complex, Friday evening.

Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue responded to the complex, located in the area of Southwest 215th Street and 114th Court, Friday, just after 6:15 p.m.

“When these officers arrived, they located a 2-year-old male with a gunshot wound,” said Miami-Dade Police Sgt. Carlos Rosario.

Officials said the toddler was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The toddler was identified as Carnelle Williams-Thomas, Saturday.

While crime scene investigators moved in to process the scene, friends and family members were first hearing the heartbreaking news.

Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez and Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle took to Twitter to lament the loss of another innocent young life taken by a bullet.

“The Miami-Dade Police Department will use every resource available to locate the person responsible,” said Rosario.

MDPD announced a $23,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
