NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - A South Florida woman is speaking out after, she said, she found a German shepherd’s dismembered remains inside a cooler in North Miami Beach.

The woman, who did not wish to be identified, described what she saw when she made the gruesome discovery in a field near Northeast 21st Avenue and 159th Street, Monday morning.

“I could see the head of a German shepherd,” she said. “It was cut completely, and I know it was a German shepherd because I know animals, and I saw the shape of the mouth.”

In addition to being decapitated, the woman said the canine had been cut up. “It was in pieces — many, many pieces,” she said. “Oh my God, I saw like 50 pieces. I saw ribs, I saw chunks of meat, big meat.”

The woman said she was feeding stray cats when she spotted the cooler. “Let me tell you something else — that was not there Sunday, because I went Sunday to feed my cats,” she said.

The woman said she decided to open the cooler because she saw hairs protruding from it. “Whoever did this, they chopped this poor dog,” she said.

According to North Miami Beach Police, the German shepherd’s body was found decapitated in a blue cooler. They also clarified that this was not a police K-9.

“It was completely mutilated,” said the woman who found the cooler.

Police said they have assigned investigators to the case and that they are taking the crime very seriously.
